Sliders (Playground Dropout) Ice Curling vs Traditional Curling at Pittsburgh Curling Club

20251011_150442

Sliders Ice Curling runs as a bar-style option at Playground Dropout in Millvale, with short custom lanes and simplified play in a multi-activity venue that includes drinks and other entertainment. Traditional curling at Pittsburgh Curling Club uses four full-length Olympic-style sheets of pebbled ice, with standard deliveries from the hack, active sweeping, and full rules for strategy and scoring—matching the level seen in the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

The setups serve different purposes in Pittsburgh. Sliders focuses on quick, entertainment-driven sessions in a bar setting. Our club emphasizes the complete sport—dedicated ice, skill-building, competitive leagues, and a volunteer community that knows how to mix serious play with real fun.

Traditional Curling Setup and Play at Pittsburgh Curling Club

Pittsburgh Curling Club has four full-size sheets of professional pebbled ice at 491 McCoy Road in McKees Rocks—the same quality as Olympic rinks. Play follows traditional format: deliveries from the hack, sweeping to adjust speed and line, end strategy, and full games in leagues or bonspiels. It's closer to what you'll see during the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

Sliders Ice Curling Setup and Play

Sliders ice curling features compact lanes in a venue geared toward casual group activities. Play stays basic—stones often pushed or shot from knealing, no sliding delivery or on-ice sweeping required. Sessions are short and tied to the bar atmosphere, suiting walk-ins, birthdays, or quick outings with music and drinks.

Social Atmosphere and Parties: How Both Compare

Sliders ice curling ties curling to the bar scene—drinks, music, and lively energy make it great for parties or casual group outings.

Pittsburgh Curling Club matches that social side in our own way. Private group sessions for 6–32 people become full parties—curling on real ice followed by time to relax, chat, and celebrate (birthdays, bachelor/ette events, corporate team building, client entertaining). We host Pick-Up & Pizza nights with casual games and food, watch parties for major matches like the 2026 Olympics, and bonspiels (like the Ryan Fissella Party Spiel) full of games, music, and community vibes. Volunteers keep the atmosphere welcoming for families, college students, and everyone else.
